Global Payments completes its acquisition of Worldpay

Global Payments has completed its purchase of Worldpay from FIS and GTCR, and sold its Issuer Solutions business to FIS, focusing the group on merchant payments.

Disclosure: Paynavia is run by Leandro Diaz, who works at Worldpay.

What happened

On 13 January 2026, Global Payments announced that it had completed its acquisition of Worldpay from FIS and private equity firm GTCR. At the same time it completed the sale of its Issuer Solutions business to FIS. According to the company, the combined business serves more than six million merchant locations.

Why it matters

The deal turns Global Payments into a company focused on merchant acceptance, with Worldpay as a large part of it. For businesses that take, build or sell payments in the Nordics and Baltics, an ownership change at a major acquirer can lead to changes in products, pricing models, contracts and integrations over time. If you use either company, it is worth watching their communications and checking what, if anything, changes for your setup.
